ThousandEyes was born from two big ideas: that the Internet would become the new enterprise backbone, and that it was possible to build vantage points to see the Internet as if you own it.
As founders of Code BGP, we shared the same belief in the Internet’s critical role and importance, which is why we were thrilled when Cisco acquired Code BGP to join forces with the ThousandEyes team. Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is essential in making the Internet work. With the continued acceleration of organizations’ reliance on the Internet as part of their new enterprise network, so too has the pace of innovation around BGP as a core building block.
It has now been exactly one year since our teams came together—and it was full of major milestones! Earlier this spring, we announced the ThousandEyes BGP Monitor network, an enhancement that will significantly improve network operators' visibility and control of BGP. And we’re not just celebrating the new products we delivered this past year. We’re also recognizing the fast and exciting growth of our team and the amazing talent that we continue to invest in, further expanding our footprint in Greece.
Looking back on this year, there are a few highlights to celebrate:
Making the Authoritative View of the Internet Even More Authoritative
ThousandEyes has always been committed to providing customers with the most extensive and authoritative view of the Internet and digital experiences across any network. Since the beginning, ThousandEyes BGP visualization and alerting has helped organizations quickly detect and diagnose Internet routing issues that impact the availability and security of traffic as it traverses the Internet.
By continuing our efforts and overcoming traditional industry constraints, ThousandEyes’ ability to detect and respond to routing anomalies has accelerated. With the new ThousandEyes BGP Monitor network, for example, network operators are empowered to navigate the Internet's routing landscape with confidence and precision. The ThousandEyes BGP Monitor network delivers:
-
Comprehensive and High-quality Data: By partnering with many geographically diverse entities that offer robust BGP peering connections and provide full routing tables, we’re able to deliver high-fidelity insights, including city-level geolocation of each monitor with 100% accuracy.
-
Real-time Functionality: By employing direct BGP connections, hijacks can now be detected swiftly—sometimes in seconds, rather than minutes.
At ThousandEyes, we’re committed to assuring every digital experience over every network, and these are just a few examples of our efforts. There’s much more innovation underway as we continue to refine and expand our BGP services and focus on our research.
Continuing Our Commitment to the Research Community
ThousandEyes was born out of advanced Internet research, as was Code BGP. That legacy and our shared commitment to the research community remains as strong as ever. Over the past year, we’ve continued to reinforce our connections with research centers and esteemed academic institutions as part of our focus on driving new innovations. This summer, for example, we’ll be expanding our local office in Greece by moving into new spaces at the Science and Technology Park of Crete within the campus of FORTH.
Building the World’s Largest BGP Team
There’s a lot to be excited about: developing incredible product innovations, helping customers tackle their biggest digital experience challenges, and being in close proximity to research activities. Over the last year, we’ve become a magnet for new talent. In fact, our team has grown so much that we might be the largest team in the world to work on BGP monitoring and alerting!
To continue attracting top talent and giving back to the local community, ThousandEyes is helping sponsor 10 new CCNA Certification Scholarships to the Computer Science Department Students at the University of Crete, aimed at recognizing the knowledge and skills of IT professionals in the networking field. Under this program, the costs associated with accessing the Cisco U eLearning platform for the CCNA certification preparation and the final exam will be covered.
Delivering Digital Experience Assurance
Organizations today rely on a complex and highly distributed web of networks to deliver always-on applications and online services to customers and employees across all domains that matter—both inside and outside the IT perimeter that they own. IT can no longer see, let alone control, the delivery of every digital experience, and that’s why visibility into the Internet matters. More than ever, the world relies on the Internet to live, work, and play. We are proud of what the team has accomplished this past year—and, more importantly, thrilled to continue pushing the pace of our innovation to deliver the solutions that our customers need to see and navigate the Internet as if they own it.
