BGP RPKI State Monitoring

ThousandEyes released BGP RPKI state monitoring to provide information on the BGP security posture.

Innovation Overview

The Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) is a solution for validating BGP route announcements. The ThousandEyes BGP test now provides detailed insights into the RPKI status of any prefix, including the ability to monitor Valid, Invalid, and Not Found states. With near real-time updates, you'll be alerted promptly to any changes, allowing for quick response and an improved BGP security posture.

Feature Highlights:

  • Comprehensive Prefix Coverage: Monitors the RPKI status across any chosen network prefixes, ensuring thorough visibility and security for your entire RPKI posture.

  • Annotation on BGP Views: Offers annotations on BGP views, enabling you to quickly visualize and identify autonomous systems that are incorrectly propagating RPKI Invalid statuses, enhancing your ability to address routing anomalies effectively.

  • Real-Time Alerts for Any RPKI Status: Provides near real-time notifications for changes in RPKI status, including Valid, Invalid, and Not Found states, enabling swift responses to potential security issues and ensuring confidence when RPKI Valid states are expected.

Customer Benefits:

  • Enhanced Security: By monitoring the RPKI status of prefixes, you can quickly identify and address any Invalid states, reducing the risk of routing attacks and ensuring secure data transmission.

  • Improved Network Reliability: Near real-time alerts on RPKI status changes allow prompt responses to potential issues, helping maintain a stable and reliable network infrastructure.

  • Increased Operational Efficiency: With detailed insights into the RPKI status, network administrators can make informed decisions faster, optimizing network operations and reducing downtime.

Here is a quick demo of how to use BGP RPKI state monitoring:

  1. Start BGP monitoring by enabling “Collect BGP data” in Network test.

  2. Start BGP monitoring by standalone BGP test.

  3. The BGP test topology view will show the RPKI status for the target.

  4. Create a BGP alert using the RPKI status.

  5. Troubleshoot any invalid RPKI issue from the BGP alert.
