New research findings on Internet performance will also be unveiled.

Angelique Medina of ThousandEyes will present findings from a measurement-based study of the availability and performance of telecom, public cloud, and content delivery networks throughout 2020, specifically examining the impacts of changing Internet usage due to COVID-19 and how these impacts varied across different regions and providers.

Bill Wohnoutka, VP of Product Management for Global Internet & Content Delivery Services at CenturyLink will describe how his team worked closely with partners and game producers to rapidly optimize game delivery over constrained networks. He'll also share recent regional traffic trends and how CenturyLink mobilized in response to changing network conditions, rising demand for content, and requests from regulatory agencies.

Taming Anycast in the Wild

Marcel Flores, Research Scientist at Verizon Digital Media Services (previously EdgeCast), will discuss some of the challenges of running a large, multi-provider anycast CDN and how he and his team deal with them. He'll discuss DailyCatch, a tool internally developed for measuring and analyzing global anycast, and provide insight into some of the behaviors he and his team observe on the Internet. He'll also present some examples of how anycast has grown increasingly complex in the face of COVID-19 lockdowns and provide a view into how these scenarios are managed.

He'll then present his broader observation that the application and content world is now the evolved agile mammal in the Internet's ecosystem and the lower layers of platform and transmission are playing the role of the reptiles!
