Introducing Enterprise Routing Assurance

Summary

Cisco ThousandEyes introduces Enterprise Routing Assurance, a powerful new feature designed to provide visibility into internal network routing that public BGP monitors cannot capture. By utilizing local Enterprise Agents to collect BGP telemetry within your security perimeter, teams can integrate internal routing data into familiar ThousandEyes visualization and alerting workflows.

When routing changes disrupt business-critical applications, NetOps teams need to know what changed, where the change occurred, and how it affected users. Public BGP monitors cannot observe routes that exist only inside your enterprise network, leaving teams to piece together router commands, logs, and performance data to investigate internal routing events.

Cisco ThousandEyes Enterprise Routing Assurance extends Cisco ThousandEyes BGP monitoring with local route collection inside your enterprise network. Routers advertise selected routes through local external BGP (eBGP) sessions to a Cisco ThousandEyes Enterprise Agent, which acts as a local BGP collector. The agent then forwards routing telemetry to Cisco ThousandEyes over its existing authenticated HTTPS connection, keeping BGP peering within your security perimeter.

Extend Routing Intelligence Inside Your Network

ThousandEyes already supports private BGP monitoring through peering with ThousandEyes-hosted collectors. Enterprise Routing Assurance adds a local collection option for environments where routers can’t establish BGP sessions across the security perimeter.

Teams can examine internal routing information through familiar ThousandEyes route visualization, historical analysis, and alerting workflows. Your router export policies determine which routes are shared.

Understand What Routing Changes Mean for Users

Internal routing disruptions can interrupt access to business-critical applications, reducing employee productivity and putting revenue at risk. Teams can track prefix reachability, investigate AS path changes, and inspect route announcements and withdrawals. They can compare those events with active network and application measurements to investigate questions such as:

  • Did a route change coincide with packet loss or increased latency?

  • Did connectivity recover after an inter-region failover?

  • Did the application remain available while routing converged?

Validate Changes and Accelerate Recovery

These use cases span eBGP data center fabrics, environments that use multiple private autonomous system numbers (ASNs), private WANs, and hybrid cloud connections. Enterprise Routing Assurance supports monitoring BGP routes to private IP address space and helps teams validate connectivity during planned maintenance, failovers, and routing incidents by correlating route announcements and withdrawals with network and application performance.

By extending ThousandEyes intelligence deeper into the enterprise network, teams gain the context to investigate disruptions faster, validate changes, and confirm recovery with confidence.
