Upgrade Path for Ubuntu 20.04 Enterprise Agent

ThousandEyes released an upgrade path for Enterprise Agents running Ubuntu 20.04 OS to prepare for the OS end-of-life.

Innovation Overview

ThousandEyes Enterprise Agents running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS ("Focal") will enter the End of Support period on April 30, 2025, and End of Life on June 30, 2025. To avoid any interruption, ThousandEyes has provided an individual upgrade path for these Enterprise Agents, with options for each installation type.

Feature Highlights:

  • UI In-place Upgrade: For Ubuntu 20 Appliance Agents (TEVA and TEPA), users can upgrade single or multiple agents from Agent settings.

  • Back Up and Restore Configuration: Prior to the upgrade process, you can back up your agent configuration to safeguard your data.

  • Alpine-based Cisco Agent: The new container image for the Cisco Application Hosting Agent is available for upgrade via CLI or SD-WAN Manager.

  • Appliance Web Console Upgrade: The upgrade option in the Agent web interface is available for Appliance Agents behind the proxy upgrade.

Customer Benefits:

  • Smooth Upgrade Experience: The new upgrade path has been significantly improved from the previous agent upgrade, minimizing manual steps and saving customers time.

Here is a quick demo of how to upgrade the Ubuntu 20 Enterprise Agent:

  1. Use UI in-app upgrade for any TEVA / TEPA.

  2. Use web interface upgrade for any TEVA / TEPA behind the proxy.

  3. Back up agent configuration before upgrade.

  4. Restore the backup file when activating the new agent.

  5. Use CLI for upgrading the CAF Agent.
